Leadership
Poi Consulting LLC was founded and is led by Brian Poi, an economist with 25 years of experience in econometrics, statistics, and forecasting. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan after graduating magna cum laude from Indiana University.

He began his career at StataCorp LLC, the provider of the Stata statistical software package widely used by both academic and industry economists. There he developed a variety of econometric commands, primarily in the areas of instrumental variables estimation, time-series analysis, and user-programmable commands for GMM and QML estimation. He also wrote and led a popular web-based course on time-series analysis, and he was responsible for many of the company's marketing and advertising campaigns. Earlier in his tenure he was a lead technical support analyst, receiving countless accolades from users for his promptness, courtesy, accuracy, and clarity.
Later in his career Poi moved to Moody's Analytics West Chester, PA office where he served in various roles. He began in the consumer credit analytics department, building predominantly vintage-level models for various credit card and residential mortgage portfolios. He moved to the then-new specialized
modeling group where he led external validation projects, developed new products, and served as global head of internal macro- and regional economic model validation. Soon after handing off external validation duties due to time constraints, that group was named by the Chartis Research Group as the Category Leader in Model Validation Solutions for 2019.
Poi was the creator of and product lead for Moody's Bank Call Report Forecasts® product that provides clients with internally consistent forecasts of quarterly financial statements for individual banks, custom peer groups, and the entire population of more than 5,000 banks. He and his team were also the creators of the prototype Moody's CECL Accelerator® product that calculates FASB-compliant CECL allowances for consumer credit portfolios using data from the Bank Call Report Forecasts product. That product estimates vintage-level originations, calculates vintage-level losses and reserves, and requires no proprietary data from the banking institution.
While at Moody's Poi was also the global head of model validation for Moody's Analytics global macroeconomic and U.S. regional economic models. He and his team were responsible for producing independent validation reports of Moody's macroeconomic, regional economic, and house price forecast models. His team also produced custom reports required by subscribers' internal validation teams, playing the important role of easing customers' concerns about the accuracy and suitability of Moody's forecasting approach.
In August 2019 Poi left Moody's Analytics to start Poi Consulting LLC, a boutique economic consulting firm with a true commitment to client satisfaction and rigorous economic analysis.
Among Poi's most satisfying accomplishments throughout his career, he has served as a mentor to countless junior-level employees, helping them acquire advanced economics, statistics, and programming skills in addition to wisdom about the workplace and life.

Poi resides in Chester County, Pennsylvania, founded by William Penn in 1682 and rich with history, open space, and an unmatched quality of life.
